This was the best "chippie" EVER, had been there for over 50 years. Anna & her husband Tony served many generations over the years. Balgownie is a "lesser" village without the famous fish shop.

Went here based on the reviews and trip adviser and another site we found online. Unlike most of the reviews are from out of town and thus this was not our local place we grew up going to.that being said, the reviews were spot on. The food was great price is super cheap and in the scollops more were amazing.it is quite old fashion in there and we had to wait a while for the food. However, we didn't mind and allowed us to enjoy the atmosphere of days gone by. As the other reviews said they're planning on retiring soon and we wish them the best of luck. So get there before they leave.

I often eat here with friends and/or relatives and the food never disappoints. The coffee is great and the staff are friendly. A great place to eat :)

Ordered a toasted sandwich with ham cheese and tomato. It was an open sandwich on a Turkish bread. It cost $12! Was not worth $12. Has gone down hill since been taken over. Won't be going again. Can get a steak chips n salad from collies $17

Service was friendly, pub quiz was fun (although I lost), but considering the prices being charged, you'd be forgiven for expecting a higher quality dish than that which was dragged from the kitchen. Three of the medallion steaks ordered were not cooked as ordered; seems the chef had a problem knowing what 'blue' and 'rare' were. For the price range advertised, should it be such a struggle to have the meat, a good cut, cooked as ordered. The atmosphere was fun and jolly - we managed to drown our bovine sorrows in lots of wine. Fortunately, for the prices per bottle, the wine itself was of excellent quality.
