We travelled through Bruce Rock late last year with the family and stopped for lunch; the service was impeccable, the young waitress was friendly, bubbly, and very fast and attentive. The food was delicious and beautifully presented, well worth the inflated price. And the venue was well maintained and clean! We have recently visited again, after enjoying it so much the last time, and the service, hygiene, and quality have declined drastically! We waited 30 minutes before we were noticed, and then rushed off because a phone call (from her husband, as the whole cafe was aware of thanks to her overly loud tone and yelling) was more important. The food seemed literally thrown together, and mine was undercooked (still practically frozen!) while hubby's was overcooked (burnt beyond recognition!). Dirt, food scraps & old stains were all over the dining floor - I shudder to think what the kitchen floor looked like - and flies were piled up on the window sills. Clearly the care and attention taken previously has all but gone. A positive note on the sole worker (not owner), she did not stop! When the owner had rushed off, she tried her hardest to keep up with the sudden influx of people (lunch time rush no doubt) - serving AND cooking at the same time. I applaud her willingness to work under such conditions! A quick word with the locals revealed that the main reason they visit is a lack of other options - either drive half an hour, to an hour, in either direction for lunch or put up with sub-par service. I'm not sure what has happened to the lovely little cafe, but it sure isn't worth the money or waiting time anymore.
