Chains on the door and bar emptied ... very sad news. Looks like bills not paid and building owner taken possession. Was such a good place, hope problems can be resolved and it reopens soon.
Old pub that has had a face lift with the upstairs rooms done out in a art deco style. From what we saw each room was different in styling. Good size room with comfy bed and a mid size bathroom. Only complaint was low water pressure and hard to set a constant water temperature. Downstairs is 'trendy pub' with live 'unplugged' style music on two of the nights we stayed. The music could be heard in one of the two rooms we had, so I suggest getting second floor rooms if you are noise sensitive. Food in the pub section was very good. Lots of local coffee shops and restaurants and a few second hand stores with a good range of merchandise. (Some good vinyl!) You can walk to Carlton if you are keen - about 20 minutes I guess.
