Coffee was really good. The first sip was a bit bitter in the the begging but then it left a strong coffee smell and sweetness in my mouth. Haven't had such good coffee for long time. Was quite happy with it. Service was good too. Need more cleanup for their tables though.
Our previous catch up with brunch girl Imco, she recommended Blacksmith as a must go place for south siders. With that in mind, we made our way there for weekday breakfast. The busy little café is tucked away in Bothwell st with an alfresco and indoor dining area. The simple yet trendy establishment specializes in traditional brekkie offerings with a twist. After reviewing their simple and well laid out menu, we ordered: caffeinated drinks, salmon egg benny & off menu meatballs in red sauce. The caffeinated drinks consists a cappuccino and caramel latte. Skilfully made latte art was presented with strong aromas. The cappuccino showed strong and nutty flavours with a big caffeine bite. The latte paired with the flavoured syrup presents a caramel and chocolaty taste with a mild sweetness. Very good brews which tamed our caffeine hunger. 4/5 Next up, the salmon egg benny with two poached eggs covered with sriracha hollandaise, sliced smoked salmon and rockets all on top of warm thick cut Turkish bread. Cutting into the egg, presents a runny yolk which brought sparkles to Mrs Tomcat’s eyes. Generous amounts of smoked salmon was included and paired perfectly with the smooth and rich sriracha hollandaise. Flavour wise is towards the rich and slightly salty side but considering the generous quantity of ingredient and price; it’s a well-deserved 4/5. Last dish to arrive was the off menu special: pork meatballs in red sauce. The bowl of goodies contains pork meat balls (with chopped water chestnut and onions) in a red Italian sauce (diced tomato, onion, basil and spices) served with a piece of sourdough bread. The meat balls were porky and sweet with a nice crunchy texture. Paired with the sour and slightly salty red sauce it’s an east meets west fusion done to perfection. Bravo! 4.5/5 Overall service for a busy morning was very friendly and efficient. We were greeted warmly when ordering and the waiters were keen to answer questions and make recommendations based on preferred taste. Feedback was asked post meal which demonstrates the manager's focus on continues improvement. 5/5 Hint: Beans here is from Bear Bone. Their benny and meatballs comes highly recommended.
